FSP News - February 2007

There is still time to get a ticket to THE Libertarian Event of the year! The New Hampshire Liberty Forum , Feb 22 - 25th at the Concord Holiday Inn. Over 200 people have pre-registered. Mr. Stossel's Keynote dinner has SOLD OUT, but day passes are still available. Likely Presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul will be speaking at the Closing Ceremony. Key members of the New Hampshire Senate and House of Representatives will engage in a discussion about the role of government and the changing face of New Hampshire politics on Friday, Feb. 23. Come and have YOUR questions answered.

The Center for Public Integrity just released its latest study of the ratio of lobbyists to state legislators in each state. New Hampshire leads the U.S. with the lowest ratio, just half that of the next "best" state of Maine. Also, just released as a part of the U.S. Census Bureau 2007 Statistical Abstract, in Median Household Income , NH ranked 6th highest. In Persons Below Poverty Level , NH scored the best at #50. When state Unemployment Rates were calculated by the Census Bureau, NH scored 6th lowest.

The new article in Blade magazine by Evan F. Nappen, Don't Step on the Porcupine Knife, details the FSP's limited edition, commemorative Buck Knife, with a laser-cut 24k-gold-plated porcupine in the 8.5" birch handled knife. Nappen, a former FSP V.P., also discusses the FSP - "For many folks, including your humble author, just moving to New Hampshire brought tremendous personal liberties. I formerly lived in New Jersey, a place the National Rifle Association officially called 'Gun Owner's Hell.' Conversely, New Hampshire knife and gun laws respect freedom and individual rights, and include a reasonable 'Shall Issue' carry license. It is actually prohibited in New Hampshire to be fingerprinted or photographed when applying for the carry license." The last few of of this limited edition, individually numbered FSP knife will be for sale at the Liberty Forum, and it is currently for sale in the FSP Merchandise Center.

While NHLF is the big event now, don't forget, PorcFest is just a handful of months away! PorcFest this year will be June 18-24 at Gunstock Mountain Resort, on 2,400 acres in Gilford, New Hampshire. The campground is located close to the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee, with beautiful mountain views. Up to date schedule, lodging, and other information is available on the PorcFest 2007 webpage. Registration for PorcFest attendees and vendors will be available March 1st.

Blazing Bumper Buzzes Bash!
A new bumper sticker will make its debut at the NH Liberty Forum.
Be the beginner on your block to brandish this wicked-bad badge of freedom.
Bare this bravura and bear witness to the beacon of liberty!

Mark Owen refers to the Free State Project in his essay at LewRockwell.com, The Welfare State: Shedding Society

Action of the Month - Go Forth and Mingle. Mingle at your local watering hole, mingle at the happenin' club, mingle at the PTA, mingle at the church social. Meet new people, catch up with old friends and always keep an ear out for an opening where the seed of liberty can be planted. On most subjects, you can't talk for long without someone mentioning an area where government has gotten too big. When that happens, there's no need to lay in with a recitation of Human Action, an attack on social contract theory, nor the negative-reverse feedback of an unenforced law. A simple remark that people know how to live their lives better than politicians and bureaucrats is all you need to say if the ground is fertile or futile. If futile, walk away with a smile and don't waste your time; if fertile, you may just have made a new friend and fan of liberty (and telling them how great New Hampshire is can't be too far beyond :). - Phil Denisch

HOW'S YOUR AIM? Shoot at your local range then send your targets in and may the best Porc win (prizes, fame, fortune, etc.). A different course of fire with multiple categories every time will keep things interesting. Free State Match #1 targets are due back by February 20th. Read all about the Free State Match Shooting Competition on the FSP website. Good luck!

In New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Liberty Alliance is "a non-partisan alliance formed to effect political and cultural change in a manner conducive to individual liberty within the State of New Hampshire" - see what's new with this active, growing organization in their newsletter for January. The NHLA is providing the NH State House Tours at the Liberty Forum.

Another new activist organization has just sprouted up in New Hampshire. The Coalition for Common Sense Marijuana Policy was formed in support of New Hampshire House Bill 92, effectively decriminalizing marijuana, and to help end the war on marijuana in the state. News about the decriminalization bill was covered by the Concord Monitor and, listen to new 10 minute interviews with US Rep. Ron Paul, NH Rep. Charles Weed, a sponsor of HB92, and Matt Simon, a Coalition for Common Sense Marijuana Policy organizer. NORML's Daily Audio Stash conducted the interviews - download the MP3 from January 23, 2007.
